Alberta High School Completion Documents
Students may earn either an Alberta High School Diploma or a Certificate of High School Achievement which is associated with the Knowledge and Employability courses. In order to earn an Alberta High School Diploma , students must have earned a minimum of 100-credits. See chart (p.4) for specific course requirements. In order to earn a Certificate of High School Achievement, students must have earned a minimum of 80-credits and have successfully completed at least one academic Knowledge and Employability (KE) course. See chart (p.4) for specific course requirements. Possession of an Alberta High School Diploma does NOT guarantee admission to a post-secondary institution. Students are advised to check the calendars of post-secondary institutions for admission requirements or make an appointment to see a school counsellor.

To earn an Alberta High School Diploma, a student must earn a minimum of 100 credits and Complete and meet the standards of the following courses:

»» English 30-1 or 30-2
»» Social Studies 30 or 33
»» Mathematics 20-1, 20-2, or 20-3
»» Science 20 or 24, Biology 20 or Chemistry 20 or Physics 20 or Science 10 and 14
»» Physical Education 10 (3 credits)»» Career & Life Management (CALM) (3 credits)
»» Credits from Career Technology Studies (CTS) or fine arts or second languages
»» 10 credits in any 30-level courses in addition to English 30-1 or 30-2 & Social Studies 30 or 33
»» Grade 12 courses: Students who use Francaise 30 as a diploma requirement must present English 30-1 or 30-2 as one of the required Grade-12 level courses. The Grade 12-level course requirements may also be met by 30-level "a" and "b" courses (e.g. Industrial Education 30a and 30b). One 30-level course (10-credits) from any occupational Knowledge and Employability course will be accepted for students transferring from the Knowledge and Employability course stream to the general High School Diploma Program.

Requirements for a Certificate of High School Achievement
The requirements indicated below are the minimum requirements for a student to attain a Certificate of High School Achievement. The requirements for entry into post-secondary institutions and workplaces may require additional courses.

80 CREDITS Including the following:
